Kvitsøy is an island municipality at the outer edge of Boknafjorden and among Rogaland's best-known sites for birdwatching during the migration season. It was here that Norway's first Red-eyed Vireo, a North American songbird, was discovered on 2 October 2014 and seen by around 75 birding enthusiasts the same day. The island's open landscape makes it a favourite place to search for rare migrant visitors from both the east and the west.
