An archipelago on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004, renowned for the roughly 1,500-year-old tradition of eider husbandry and down harvesting. The entire World Heritage area is registered as an Important Bird Area (IBA), with well over 200 recorded bird species and around 110 breeding species. The outlying islet of Lånan is home to the largest Common Eider colony in the area, with dedicated eider wardens who live there from April to July.
