Breeding season: April–July, 2 broods (sometimes 3). - Nest: a tunnel 0.5–1 m long dug in a vertical clay bank near water. - Eggs: 6–7 white and round. Incubation 19–21 days by both parents. - Young: fed with fish (always head-first). Fledge after 23–27 days.
