The male's song is the species' clearest hallmark: a metallic, accelerating "sirr-sirr-sirrrrr" that is often compared to the sound of a bunch of keys being shaken. The song is delivered from exposed song posts — poles, the top of a hedge or a power line — and can be heard at long range throughout the breeding season from May to July.
