The Great Skua does not breed in Sweden. On Iceland, the Faroes and in Scotland it breeds on open heaths and grasslands near the coast, often in loose colonies. The nest is a simple scrape on the ground, and the bird defends it very aggressively against intruders — it attacks without hesitation both other birds and people who approach. The female normally lays 2 eggs, and both parents take part in guarding.
