The male's territorial call is a very thin, high-frequency, drawn-out whistling "si-si-si-siii" that many human ears find hard to catch and that is easily drowned out among other woodland sounds. The call is heard mainly during the display period in spring and, to some extent, in autumn. The female answers with shorter, higher whistles.
