The Ortolan Bunting nests on the ground. The nest is a simple cup-shaped structure well concealed in low vegetation, often in a field edge or on a clear-cut. The clutch usually comprises 4–5 eggs, and the female does most of the incubation while both parents feed the young on insects. The short breeding season normally allows only one brood per year.
