Breeding habitat: old, open coniferous forest with scattered pine, spruce and rowan. Often near mires or river mouths. The nest is placed 2–6 metres up in a spruce and is built of twigs, moss and lichens.
Breeding season: May–July. The female lays 4 eggs and incubates for 13–14 days. The young fledge after 13–20 days and stay with the parents for a further few weeks.
