The River Warbler nests in dense, damp vegetation, preferably in thickets and overgrown ground near water. The nest is placed low, in grass or scrub close to the ground, well hidden. The female usually lays 5–6 eggs. The concealed nest placement and the species' shy behaviour make breeding hard to study, and records of breeding River Warblers are usually based on singing males.
