The Slender-billed Nutcracker has an established breeding population in Sweden along the coast of Norrland (about 600 pairs), a result of individuals from the 1977 irruption staying on and settling. Otherwise the subspecies breeds in its Siberian core areas, early in the year in coniferous forest, living then largely on stored seeds from the previous autumn.
