Willow Warbler: In winter

The Willow Warbler is a classic long-distance migrant and leaves Sweden entirely during the winter half of the year.

• Wintering: spends the winter in Africa south of the Sahara — one of the longest migrations among Swedish small birds.
• Migration: leaves the country during August–September and returns in late April in the south and mid-May in Norrland.
• Absence: not seen in Sweden in winter, so the species' calls and colouring belong entirely to the summer half of the year.
