Holmöarna nature reserve in the Gulf of Bothnia, north of Umeå, is an archipelago with one of the Kvarken region's largest Common Eider colonies (over 2,300 pairs). Black Guillemot and Arctic Tern breed on the outer rocks. King Eider, an arctic species, is occasionally seen as a rare visitor but does not breed here.
