The mouth of the Kalixälven is a rich birdwatching site in Kalix. White-tailed Eagle are seen almost daily along the river valley and Common Gull are seen at the estuary. Grey Wagtail breed along the rapids and Black-throated Loon are seen on calm stretches of water.
