Schäferiängarna is one of northern Europe's largest hay meadows (around 300 ha), located in the Ottenby nature reserve on the southern tip of Öland and mentioned as early as 1741 by Linnaeus. Black-tailed Godwit, Northern Shoveler and Ruff use the open meadows during spring migration. Access is prohibited in spring, summer and autumn — only the marked Ängsvaktarstigen trail is open during this period.
