The call is brighter and higher-pitched than the deep, trumpeting call of the ordinary Canada Goose. It is often described as a more shrill, cackling "kank-kank", which is also the origin of the English name "Cackling Goose". The difference in voice can be helpful in identification within mixed goose flocks.
