The Caspian Tern breeds in colonies or in smaller groups on open gravel and rocky islands in the outer archipelago, often in places without ground predators. The female normally lays 2–3 eggs in a simple scrape. The species is very sensitive to disturbance during breeding, and the colonies can be abandoned entirely if people, dogs or White-tailed Eagles disturb them.
