The song is a thin, varied series of whistling notes and crackling phrases, roughly "si-si-si-sri-sri-trrr", recalling the song of the European Pied Flycatcher but often perceived as somewhat more metallic. The male sings diligently from exposed branches in the crowns of deciduous trees during May and June. The call is a short, dry "witt".
