The Common Chiffchaff is a short-distance migrant that leaves Sweden in autumn and spends the winter further south.
Wintering: it heads for the Mediterranean region and North Africa, while some birds remain in Western Europe.
Absence: it is not normally seen in Sweden during the winter — the species is a summer visitor that arrives as early as the end of March, earlier than the Willow Warbler.
Food: during the breeding season it lives on small insects, larvae and spiders picked from the branches and undergrowth.
