Common Rosefinch: Song & calls

The song is melodic and easy to recognise: a short, clear and ascending whistled phrase of four to five notes often likened to a wolf-whistle, usually rendered as "vi-tchi-vi-tchiu". The contact call is a clear, slightly questioning "tsoo-ee". The characteristic song, repeated diligently during June, makes the species easy to locate even though the bird often keeps hidden in the foliage.
