The Eurasian Golden Oriole's song is one of Sweden's most distinctive and sought-after bird sounds. It is deep, mellow and fluting, and is usually rendered as "dü-dü-li-oo" or "dudl-io" — a soft, swelling phrase that carries remarkably far through the broadleaf woodland. The song has a clear, almost human flute-like quality with a slightly wistful, bent ending, which makes it hard to confuse with other Swedish species. The male sings most eagerly during June, usually in the first hours after dawn and, in calm weather, in the middle of the morning.
