The Hobby's call is a rapid, high-pitched "ki-ki-ki-ki" heard above all near the nest site during June–July. The call resembles the Kestrel's but is distinctly higher and thinner in tone. When disturbed at the nest, the pair can become very insistent and deliver long volleys of alarm calls that give the site away to an experienced ornithologist.
