The European Golden Plover nests on the ground. The nest is a shallow scrape on a dry tussock, lined with lichens and grass stems. The female usually lays 4 eggs, which both parents incubate for about four weeks. The young are nest-leavers that find food themselves but are led and guarded by the parents.
