The nest is built in a broadleaved tree, often on an old crow or raptor platform that is added to with fresh, green twigs. The female usually lays 1–3 eggs, which are incubated for around 30–35 days. The short Swedish summer gives the species barely enough time, which contributes to its late breeding cycle.
