The European Stonechat nests on the ground, where the female places the nest well hidden in dense vegetation, by a tussock or under a bush. The clutch normally comprises 5–6 eggs, which the female incubates. Both parents then feed the young. The species can manage two broods in a favourable season, and it is precisely this high productivity that contributes to its rapid population increase in the country.
