Fieldfare: Nest & eggs
The Fieldfare is an open nester that often breeds in loose colonies.
- Location: a cup nest in the fork of a tree, preferably a birch or other deciduous tree, usually 2–8 metres up.
- Construction: the nest is built of grass and twigs with an inner layer of mud, just as in the other thrushes.
- Collective defence: the colony defends itself en masse and bombards birds of prey and crows with droppings to drive them off.
The species does not use nest boxes.
