Breeding season: May–July, 1 brood per year. - Nest: well concealed in dense shoreline vegetation near water; lined with greyish-brown down. - Eggs: 8–12 eggs, cream-white and unmarked; incubation period 24–26 days; the female incubates alone. - Young: the newly hatched young are led straight to water by the female; the young can fly after about 45–50 days.
