The Great Crested Grebe is vocal during the breeding season. It gives nasal, screeching and rolling calls, often rendered as "krrrrr-aahh" and hard "krrrt-krrrt". The calls are heard best in spring and early summer out on the lakes and form part of the species' lively and conspicuous display behaviour.
