Grey Heron: Diet

The Grey Heron is above all a fish-eater but also takes frogs, small rodents, large insects and sometimes nestlings. It hunts by standing completely still or wading slowly in shallow water and then striking lightning-fast with its bill. In winter it can be seen hunting voles on open fields far from water.
