The Lesser Black-backed Gull has a laughing, cackling call, a "ha-ha-ha" reminiscent of the European Herring Gull's but often somewhat deeper and darker in tone. The calls are often heard from birds in the colonies and along the coast, and an agitated colony can give off a collective alarm.
