Long-tailed Skua: Song & calls

Away from its breeding grounds the Long-tailed Skua is largely silent. On the breeding heath, however, shrill, whining and whistling calls can be heard, often in connection with territorial defence and when the bird attacks intruders near the nest. The sounds are brighter and less coarse than those of the larger skuas.
