The Marsh Warbler's song is the species' hallmark: a long, energetic, free-flowing stream of whistles, trills and mimicry. A single male can weave in the calls of a great many other bird species, both the European species it has encountered during the breeding season and the African species it has learned in its winter quarters. The song is often heard late in the evening and at night around midsummer.
