The commonest call is a hard, dry and rattling "trrrr" that sounds like a wooden rattle. The song is flute-like and recalls that of the Song Thrush but is more monotonous and melancholy, with shorter phrases, and is readily delivered from a high treetop even in windy and chilly weather early in spring.
