Northern Hawk-Owl: Diet

The Northern Hawk-Owl lives above all on small rodents, especially voles, supplemented by small birds. It often hunts in daylight, either from a lookout perch in a treetop or by hovering over open ground. The strong dependence on rodents means that both the population and breeding success swing in step with the rodent cycles.
