Song Thrush: Nest & eggs

The Song Thrush builds its own free-standing cup-shaped nest and does not excavate any cavity.

• Location: in a bush or tree, often in a spruce, usually 2–4 metres up.
• Construction: a cup nest that the female builds and lines inside with a smooth layer of mud instead of moss, which is a hallmark of the species.
• Two broods: the pair often manages two broods in a season.

The female lays 4–5 eggs, which are incubated for 12–14 days before the young hatch in the mud-lined nest.
