The Western Yellow Wagtail's commonest call is a soft, slightly rising "tsjipp" or "psii" often heard from birds in flight. The song is simple and modest, a short series of twittering and whistling notes delivered from a bush, a tussock or a post. The call is softer and less sharp than that of the Grey Wagtail.
