White-tailed Eagle: Diet
The White-tailed Eagle is opportunistic and eats:
- Fish (50–70% of the diet): pike, perch, salmon, whitefish — often taken at the surface.
- Waterbirds: Common Eider, Eurasian Coot, Long-tailed Duck, Common Goldeneye.
- Mammals: American Mink, pine marten, hares.
- Carrion: elk, seal and roe deer carcasses — extremely important in winter.
The White-tailed Eagle hunts both by seizing prey in flight and by stealing from Ospreys and other birds of prey ("kleptoparasitism").
