The Willow Ptarmigan is a ground nester. The nest is a simple scrape placed well concealed in dwarf-shrub vegetation or among tussocks. The female lays a large clutch of usually 7–11 eggs, which she incubates alone while the cock keeps watch nearby. The chicks are nidifugous and follow the female shortly after hatching.
