The Black-throated Diver is heard with a long-drawn, melancholy and desolately ringing "aa-oo-loo-ii" as well as loud, cackling "klo-klo-klo" series. The calls carry far across silent forest lakes and are among the most characteristic sounds of the Nordic wilderness.
