Common Gull: In winter

The Common Gull is a short-distance migrant, and although many birds leave Sweden, some linger along the coasts in the south.

• Departure: many Swedish Common Gulls migrate to the North Sea coasts and Western Europe for the winter.
• Wintering: some remain along the coasts of southern Sweden and in ice-free harbours where they can find food year-round.
• Food: as an omnivore it searches for earthworms on lawns and fields and readily gathers at sewage works and rubbish tips.
