Common Pheasant: In winter

The Common Pheasant is a pronounced resident bird that moves within small areas and remains in the farmland throughout the winter.

• Food: in winter, plant-based fare such as seeds, spilt grain, green shoots, berries and roots predominates.
• Feeding: pheasants readily visit game crops and feeding stations, which become important when the ground is snow-covered.
• Vulnerability: hard, snow-rich winters hit the populations hard, since the species depends on accessible ground food.

Since it is a resident bird, the Common Pheasant can be seen all year round, most commonly in the lowland plains of the south.
