Common Pochard: Song & calls

  • Display call (male): A low, soft "whee-ooh" — a creaking whistle heard during the display period in April–May.
  • Contact call (female): A hard, rasping "karrr" or "kack" — more aggressive and faster than that of the female Tufted Duck.
  • Alarm: Silent — the Common Pochard is generally a quiet duck outside the display period.
