The Redshank nests on the ground, often well hidden in a grass tussock on a grazed coastal meadow or mire. The clutch usually comprises 4 eggs, and the incubation period is around 23–25 days. Both parents take part in incubation and watch intensively over the young, which are nidifugous. Short, grazed vegetation is important so that the chicks can find food while also having a clear view.
