The Redshank is very vocal and calls often. The commonest call is a clear, somewhat melancholy and descending “tju-hju-hju”. When alarmed, a rapid, persistent “kipp-kipp-kipp” is heard. The calls are often the first thing to reveal the bird's presence on the coastal meadow, and an alarming Redshank quickly alerts other birds to danger as well.
