Eurasian Collared Dove: In winter
The Eurasian Collared Dove is a sedentary resident bird and stays in its breeding areas all year round.
- Location: it remains in suburban districts, parks and around farms, often in the same neighbourhood as during the summer.
- Diet: a frequent winter visitor at bird tables, where spilt grain and sunflower seeds help it through the cold.
- Call: the monotonous "ku-KUU-ku" can be heard even in the middle of winter during mild spells.
That it copes with winter on the spot with the help of bird tables is an important reason for the species' success in Swedish towns.
