The breeding season runs from May to July. The nest is built floating at the edge of the reeds — a stable, platform-shaped nest of reed stems and aquatic plants anchored to living stems. The female lays 6–10 eggs, which are incubated by both parents for 21–22 days. The young leave the nest early but are fed by the parents for a further few weeks. The Eurasian Coot can breed twice per season if conditions are favourable.
