The Eurasian Scops Owl is most easily identified by its call — a monotone, monotonous "pjuu...pjuu...pjuu" repeated at intervals of about 2–3 seconds, like a sonar signal. The song carries several hundred metres and is heard on warm summer evenings and nights, sometimes throughout the whole night. The male sings from a fixed song post in an old tree.
