Eurasian Wren: Nest & eggs

The Eurasian Wren builds a distinctive round, domed nest with the entrance on one side.

  • Location: hidden low down near the ground in upturned root plates, brush piles, stone walls, dense vegetation or climbing plants against a house wall.
  • Construction: the male builds several nests ("cock nests"), after which the female chooses one and lines it with feathers and hair.
  • Polygamy: a successful male may mate with several females, which nest in his different nests.
