European Crested Tit: In winter

The European Crested Tit is a decidedly and very sedentary resident bird that rarely leaves its territory, even during the cold season.

  • Diet: lives on conifer seeds, mainly spruce seeds, as well as insects and seeds it has cached in bark crevices and among lichens ahead of winter.
  • Flocks: in winter it often moves about in the company of the Great Tit, Goldcrest and other tits in roving tit parties.
  • Bird tables: it visits only feeding stations close to older coniferous forest, since it is reluctant to move away from its spruce habitat.
