The nest is a small, thick-walled and almost spherical structure of moss and spider silk hung beneath a spruce branch, well hidden among the needles. The female lays a large clutch, usually 8–12 eggs, which relative to body size is among the largest clutches of any Swedish bird. The species can manage two broods in a season.
