Great Tit: In winter
The Great Tit is a resident that stays in Sweden all winter.
- Flocks: it moves about in roving flocks, often together with Blue Tit, Willow Tit and Treecreeper.
- Food: one of the very commonest visitors to the bird table — sunflower seeds, suet and peanuts.
- Roosting: it creeps into cavities and nest boxes for shelter from the cold, and lowers its body temperature at night to save energy.
- Survival: winter is the greatest cause of mortality — supplementary feeding at the bird table measurably increases winter survival.
